testing for unknown compound again..

i cant sniff out what is it this time =(

within 3 mins, someone started shouting in the class "alcohol!!"

the only thing going on my mind was "lucky shit for him"


if the compound is alcohol = 3 test = finish in 10mins

if not... have to carry out the long grandmother test whici will take up 1 whole hour



my compound was soluble in water

great~

neutral with litmus paper... but somehow, the unversal incater doesnt show that it's neutral

nvm.. continue with my test

ceric test negative

silver nitrate test negative
(i did this test for 3 times, pray hard that it could be alkyl halide.. end up still the same---negative)

2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine test negative

bromination test

NEGATIVE NEGATIVE NEEEEEGAAATIVE!!!!


i really dont knw what to do liao

all the test was carried out at least 2 times

and yet, EVERYTHING IS NEGATIVE



dat was demoralising.. people were leaving....

left me there, still scratching my head and trying to figure out what happened


me and my partner wanted to swtich our unknown sample, and test for each other

then, the very nice TSO came by.. the one that always call me ah girl :)

then asked me how was my test

i said.... no idea of what is it... then showed him my solution for ceric test...

he just shake his head and nv ans me =(


then i also suspected that my unkown is alcohol as well

but... somehow there cant be so many alcohols in the class mah

so..... repeated the citric test for at least 5 times

and........

no choice but to bet on my luck..

i wrote down --------------------alcohol on my paper


while washing up

the TSO laughed at me

said that"aiya, someone get the easiest one, still end up the last one to leave leh"

"i want to help u, u knw? i put alocohol for u, u knw? why u still carry out so many test ar?"

"u cant see me next semester already, sure wont come back to me la"



so.... this means that

i got it correct!!!!!


after struggling through all the testing testing, boiling... and super pungent, smelly, stink tests

my unknown was alcohol

=(

WTH...

I REALLY GOT ALCOHOL... AND I CARRIED OUT ALL THE TESTS FOR MORE THAN ONCE...

ARH!!!!!!



i should have trusted my luck in the first place


why is it alcohol got no smell one?

if not test could be finished as soon as i open up my bottle...
